Inbound boxes increased 14.3 per cent to 339,013 TEU with exports falling 0.5 per cent to 126,150 TEU. Empties were up 28.9 per cent year on year to 204,055 TEU.

"October used to be the industry's busiest month, with retailers preparing for Christmas," said Port of Long Beach executive director Mario Cordero.

"Now, with other popular shopping seasons like back-to-school, Halloween and Black Friday, ocean carriers are spreading shipments across more months to maximise the services we have developed to serve them," he said.
