May.24--The Port of Tacoma in Washington reported container volume from January to April was 617,076 20-foot-equivalent units, up 35 percent year-over-year.
Full containerized imports and exports posted double-digit growth. Imports improved 48 percent year-to-date to 226,676 TEUs, while exports rose 40 percent to 177,185 TEUs.
Foreign containers in the first four months of 2013 were up 46 percent year-over-year, reaching 476,750 TEUs, while domestic containers increased 6 percent to 140,326 TEUs.
The gains reflect the addition of the Grand Alliance and its associated carriers last July, as well as ocean carriers gaining new customers and rotating larger vessels into services calling Tacoma, the port said in a written statement.
